Jakarta’s crossover unit, Ratrace, just released their blistering latest single, “Sonic Incantation”, a single that serves as their celebration of tumultuous escapade, from the mundane daily grind of the working class, through music.
Consisting members from Thrashpit and Catastrophe, bands who are deeply rooted in Jakarta’s second wave thrash movement, Ratrace is bearing the torch of making music with thrash metal’s hostile riffings and hardcore punk’s in-your-face attitude. Music which serves as a statement.
Raw and unapologetic, the track delves into the lives of the band members as they navigate through challenges of the working world and newly-found adulting problems, then using their music as a potent escape from the monotony of daily routines. Commanding vocals, thunderous drumming, and relentless thrash riffs, combined with unique and chaotic buzzsaw-esque tone, create a sonic spell that transports listeners to a realm where the intensity of metal and hardcore becomes a liberating force.

“The song itself is our personal effort to emphasize our celebration of music as a middle finger to our daily grind. How we connect to ourselves after being alienated from 8-5, or even more, by simply playing shitty guitar in our bedroom, or playing Bolt Thrower’s tune and crank it to eleven”, said Aditya Rachmanto, the guitarist and lyricist of the song.“We wanted to capture the essence of how music, especially thrash metal, serves as a sonic incantation – a powerful spell that breaks the chains of the mundane and transports us to a realm of chaos and freedom. Even just for an instant.”
The production processes itself are operated in a new approach with new collaborators for Ratrace. Engineered by the craftsmanship of Auliya Akbar (Amerta, Rassuk, Avhath) at NoiseLab Studio, and the post-production by the brains of Gilz (Dirty Ass, The Regards) at Rumah Musim Dingin. Complemented with artwork from loveyousinceday1 (Chain Circuits) and a fresh new logo by Bharata Danu (who recently did the artwork for Wolfbrigade’s repressed version of their debut, “Progression/Regression”).
With the release of this single, Ratrace is currently working and gearing up for their debut full length release.
